Speaker: JIAO Yang, Assistant Professor, Fudan UniversityVenue: Room 530, Building of Economics, Zijingang CampusAbstract:This paper presents causal evidence that international trade affects the currency composition of corporate debt. We address endogeneity concerns by using South Korea’s and its trading partners’ demand shocks. Cross-sectional patterns, long difference and IV regression results all confirm our theoretical prediction that firms respond to higher export shares by borrowing larger shares of debts in foreign currency. We further show that higher shares of imported intermediate input shares lower their foreign currency debt shares. These findings provide novel insights on exchange rate policy discussions when corporate foreign currency debts are pervasive.

Introduction: IASM visitors plan to organize an irregular seminar from June 20 to July 20. We will arrange about eight 1.5-hour introductory talks, on recent topics in hyperbolic geometry (and low-dimensional topology). The purpose of this seminar is to enhance communication and learn advances in the area. Upcoming Seminar:Speaker: LIU Yi (Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, Peking University)Venue: Lecture Hall, Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, No.7 Teaching Building, Yuquan CampusAbstract: In two talks, I plan to discuss recent studies on 2- or 3-manifold groups and their profinite completions. The profinite completion of a group refers to the inverse limit of all the finite quotient groups of that group. The topic of profinite completion has attracted increasing interest in low-dimensional topology during the past decade. I will try to make my two talks focus on relatively different directions. In the first talk, I will discuss surface mapping classes and their induced action on the profinite surface group. The next talk will be about hyperbolic 3-manifolds and the profinite completion of their fundamental groups.

Speaker: Prof. LI Haigang, School of Mathematical Sciences, Beijing Normal UniversityTecent Meeting: https://meeting.tencent.com/s/0KNsIwrOer5XTecent Meeting ID: 408 379 459Abstract:A long-standing area of materials science research has been the study of electrostatic, magnetic, and elastic fields in composite with densely packed inclusions whose material properties differ from that of the background. For a general elliptic system, when the coefficients are piecewise H\”older continuous and uniformly bounded, an ε-independent bound of the gradient was obtained by Li and Nirenberg, where ε represents the distance between the interfacial surfaces. However, in high-contrast composites, when ε tends to zero, the stress always concentrates in the narrow regions. As a contrast to the uniform boundedness result of Li and Nirenberg, in order to investigate the role of ε played in such kind of concentration phenomenon, in this talk we will show the blow-up asymptotic expressions of the gradients of solutions to the Lame system with partially infinite coefficients in dimensions two and three. This completely solves the Babuska problem on blow-up analysis of stress concentration in high-contrast composite media. Recently, we extend our method to deal with the resonant behavior between two close-to-touching convex acoustic subwavelength resonators.

Speaker: Prof.XIAO Hui, Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of SciencesAbstract:The major goal of Prof. Xiao research is to decipher the signaling mechanisms by which pattern-recognition receptors such as TLRs, CLRs, RLR and cGAS/STING induce the expression of cytokines (including IL-12, IL-10, and IL-23) and IFN-a/b, reprogram cell metabolism and epigenetics, and coordinate cell death/survival. The ultimate goal is to understand how the innate immune system manages to coordinate the adequate innate and adaptive immune responses to combat pathogens and cancer while tolerating commensals. His lab has recently published several high-impact works in Nature Immunology, Immunity, JEM and JCI, etc.
